Gynecomastia 23 April, 2025

Gynecomastia correction is a procedure that improves the aesthetic appearance of a man’s chest. It is common for some patients to experience a bulge in the chest area, which is usually unwelcome. This condition may occur due to excess fatty tissue in this area, the presence of glandular tissue, or a combination of both.

Gynecomastia correction is a surgical procedure performed under anesthesia in the operating room. Depending on the patient’s individual characteristics, liposuction may be performed to remove localized fat, or if necessary, the gland may be removed through an incision in the lower portion of the areola. In some specific cases, both procedures may be required to achieve a successful result.

This procedure is often performed in combination with other body contouring surgeries, such as liposuction, abdominoplasty, pectoral implants, or muscle toning and volumization, to achieve harmonious results throughout the body.

When is it indicated:

This procedure is indicated for patients:

  • Who wish to enhance the volume of their pectoral area.
  • With a large amount of fatty tissue in the pectoral region.
  • With a large mammary gland.
  • Who wish to highlight the upper pole of the pectoral muscle, better harmonizing this area of the body.
  • Who seek to create harmony in their body contour.
  • Who are undergoing liposuction, abdominoplasty, abdominal toning, or pectoral implants and desire harmony throughout their body contour.

How it’s performed:

It’s important to always conduct a preoperative consultation to determine the patient’s requirements, expectations, and condition before the procedure. The procedure is then performed in an operating room with complete asepsis and antisepsis. There are different approaches to this procedure. If only localized fat removal is required, two access points will be created where a previously prepared liquid mixture will be injected. After a specific time, the extraction will be performed using specific liposuction cannulas, smoothing the area. If the mammary gland removal is required, an incision will be made in the lower portion of the areola, the tissue will be dissected until the gland is found, the gland will be resected, checked for residual bleeding, and the treated area will be closed in layers. The two techniques can be combined if required by the patient. If the procedure aims to masculinize the pectoral muscle, an intramuscular lipoinjection will also be performed in this muscle, creating athletic volume in the area. It is possible to use a pectoral implant at the same time as surgery to create greater definition, if required.
