Mentoplasty 23 April, 2025

Mentoplasty is a procedure that creates a change in the lower third of the face, modifying the size and projection of the chin. This modification can be performed temporarily with the application of hyaluronic acid, which will last between 12 and 18 months, or permanently through a surgical procedure that involves placing a silicone implant in this anatomical area. The size and shape of the implant will depend on each patient’s previous conditions, expectations, and gender.

The surgical procedure takes approximately one hour, is performed on an outpatient basis, and recovery is usually simple and painless, with no visible scars.

This procedure is often performed in conjunction with nose surgery or rhinoplasty, as improving the projection of the lower third of the face enhances the aesthetic result of the nose surgery, creating harmony in all three facial thirds.

At Majestic Plastic Surgery, we believe that the final result is largely determined by the surgeon’s concept of beauty. At Majestic, the combination of two concepts—feminine and masculine—and the presence of two surgeons in the same procedure guarantees a much greater sense of body harmony, with less surgical time and unparalleled support, thus achieving unparalleled results.

When is it indicated?
This procedure is indicated for patients:

Who wish to improve the aesthetic appearance of their face.
Who have limited chin projection.
Who are seeking to enhance the lower third of their facial contours.
Who have mandibular hypoplasia.
Who are undergoing rhinoplasty and have a lack of volume in the lower third, wishing to harmonize and enhance the results of their primary surgery.

How is it performed?
It is important to always conduct a preoperative consultation to determine the patient’s requirements, expectations, and condition before the procedure. Afterward, always in an operating room, with complete asepsis and antisepsis, we perform the surgical procedure. An incision is made in the lower vestibular area, that is, inside the mouth, below the teeth; this way, visible scarring is avoided. A dissection is performed in layers until reaching the jawbone, and the pocket is created where the chin implant will be placed. A check is made for bleeding. The implant previously chosen for the patient is inserted, positioned, and secured to the surrounding tissues. The anatomical planes are closed, and the surgery is completed.
