Liposuction 23 April, 2025

Liposuction, liposculpture, lipoplasty, or lipolysis basically involves removing fatty tissue from specific areas of the body. This is usually performed with special cannulas that allow for selective fat extraction, sparing surrounding structures. At Majestic Plastic Surgery, we believe that the best results in this procedure are achieved with the use of technology associated with surgery. This is why, in most cases, we use special devices, such as the Microaire, a technology that allows for more uniform extraction of fatty tissue, and the Vaser, which is ultrasound applied to plastic surgery. Its purpose is to create an emulsification of adipose tissue, achieving significant destruction of fat cells, greater skin adhesion to deeper tissues, and the destruction of fibrous tissue when necessary. Additionally, we use retraction, a monopolar radiofrequency technology. This device helps us achieve greater skin adhesion to deeper layers postoperatively, ideal for patients with associated sagging. Finally, all procedures requiring volumization with fat grafting, such as gluteal fat injections, are always guided by ultrasound, allowing us to accurately determine the plane in which the fat is being deposited and minimizing the risk of life-threatening complications.

Typically, the fat extracted during liposuction or liposculpture is used to reshape the buttocks through a procedure called gluteal lipoinjection, gluteal lipotransfer, or gluteal lipograft, also known as the famous BBL. This achieves a harmonious body that highlights both the feminine and masculine figure. It is also possible to perform lipografts in other areas of the body other than the buttocks. For example, muscle volumization can be performed in the pectoral region, arms, or abdomen, with the aim of increasing the volume of these areas of the body, resulting in a much more athletic and vigorous appearance. Through liposuction or liposculpture, we can highlight the body’s anatomy, creating a demarcation of the different muscle transitions, achieving the goals of some patients who typically desire a more athletic appearance. This procedure is commonly known as high-definition abdominal marking.

When is it indicated?

This procedure is indicated for patients with:

• Fat deposits in the back, arms, abdomen, waist, thighs, double chin, hips, and/or knees.

• Those who wish to see a slimmer, more stylized, and harmonious figure.

• Those who wish to increase the volume of their buttocks, pectorals, or arms with their own fat.

• Those who desire abdominal toning.

How is it performed?

Through 0.5 to 1 cm long incisions, a previously prepared mixture containing medications that control bleeding is injected during the procedure. Subsequently, selective fat extraction is performed from various areas of the body. Traditionally, fat extraction is performed in common areas of fat deposits such as the abdomen, back, waist, thighs, and arms. However, extraction can also be performed in additional areas if required by the patient. Subsequently, the technology required for each particular case will be used. After the fat graft is in suitable condition, it is positioned in the target area, usually the gluteal region, allowing for volumization, improved shape, and/or projection of the glutes. However, muscle volumization can also be achieved in the pectorals, arms, or muscles such as the rectus abdominis. At Majestic Plastic Surgery, we perform these types of procedures under ultrasound guidance to maintain the correct plane and minimize complications related to lipoinjection. At the end of the procedure, the patient is fitted with a compression device or a support belt. This will help control the inflammatory process and promote skin adhesion to the underlying planes and its new position.
