Gluteoplasty is the procedure through which we improve the contour of a patient’s buttocks. Different surgical techniques are available to achieve this goal. It is widely known that the patient’s own fat is the ideal material for this change. This fat can increase volume, provide projection, and improve the shape of the buttocks. However, it is important to keep in mind that some of the injected fat tends to be reabsorbed. This reabsorption depends on various factors, such as the patient’s age, prior procedures, and the presence of medical conditions. On average, about 40% of the grafted fat is reabsorbed.
When a patient wishes to improve the appearance of their buttocks but does not have enough available fat tissue to achieve the desired result, a hybrid gluteoplasty can be performed. This procedure involves the placement of gluteal implants, which can vary in size depending on the patient’s contour and expectations. Fat is then taken from other areas of the body and used to smooth the transition between the implant and the gluteal tissue, creating a natural and harmonious result.
The procedure is performed under anesthesia in a specialized plastic surgery operating room, with all the necessary medical clearances. It lasts on average between 3 and 5 hours.
Regarding postoperative care, we recommend avoiding positions that interfere with the healing process of the treated area. Therefore, the patient should not sit or lie directly on their buttocks for a period of 2 to 3 months. To facilitate this process, special pillows designed to avoid pressure on the buttocks are used. The patient should sleep face down and should be able to walk without difficulty.
For pain management, we recommend the use of an analgesia pump, a device that continuously administers pain control medication, providing comfort for the first 5 days after the procedure.
